Downtown Boutique Hotels, Oaxaca

Oaxaca has a booming hospitality scene supercharged by Mexican entrepreneurs, architects, and designers, the city offers a unique variety of culture-focused, design-centered boutique hotels. With this in mind, we will be spreading our group to three boutique hotels to experience the charm of them ourselves. Read more about each hotel below. Your hotel room will be assigned by the EO planning team and communicated to you in advance of your travel.

Pug Seal

The design of Pug Seal in downtown Oaxaca is a journey through Zapotec culture and a tribute to Mexican wealth. The architectural canvas created by Rafael Uriegas encompasses Zapotec legends, stories, symbols and values; the artist Sabino Guisú was in charge of the installation on the staircase, a symbol of fertility; and the walls intervened with brass inlays with Zapotec motifs by the artist Manuel Lozano. Each of the twenty rooms has a unique design full of Mexican inspiration.

Casa Naila

This hotel came to life within the walls of a restored 18th century home. The large colonial homes of the time were characterized by their central courtyard surrounded by functional spaces and lined by green stone columns. These strong bones were then elevated by local artisans: mosaic tiles designed by the master Francisco Toledo, hand-woven rugs from Teotitlán del Valle, and paintings from Oaxacan artist Manuel Miguel. The vision was built over these classical features, transforming this home into a space where tradition becomes modern luxury, elegance, comfort, and functionality.

Sin Nombre

Housed in an iconic mansion originally built in the XVII century, Hotel Sin Nombre invites you into an experience out of time – a sensual merging of traditional and modern architecture, where pre-hispanic and arabic design elements artfully commingle with traditional Oaxacan texture. Just steps away from the vibrant bustle of historic downtown Oaxaca, the sunlit central courtyard, lined with bright foliage, invites visitors into a tranquil respite – an oasis of calm.

The Hacienda Xcanatun Resort, Mérida

Hacienda Xcanatun has been restored to its 18th century grandeur as one of the most iconic agave haciendas in the Yucatan. The resort’s design features contemporary details with local touches, using a unique mixture of austere and avant-garde elements such as natural wood, leather, regional limestone and native pasta tile floor traditionally found in haciendas. The resort is surrounded by four acres of private gardens, filled with lush vegetation and bright tropical flowers that highlight the beauty that made it one of the most important haciendas in the Yucatan. Our iconic “Casa de Piedra” restaurant, serving regional and spontaneous cuisine, is a traditional favorite among locals. A new Olympic-size swimming pool with bali beds, outdoor showers, poolside snack bar, gym and the Angsana Spa offer tranquil spaces for guests to rejuvenate and immerse in nature, bringing an entirely new concept of a luxurious “urban resort” to the historic city of Merida.

Guest check-out is at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 1 November from The Hacienda Xcanatun Resort. Late check-out cannot be guaranteed.
