Tequila & Mariachi: Guadalajara Pre-University Experience

Spend two days in Guadalajara to experience the culture and flavors of the city.

Day 1 – Tequila Experience

  • Enjoy a unique dining experience at the home of EO members in Guadalajara
  • Visit the agave fields of the hand of an expert Jimador. We’ll take a guided factory tour where Rojeña® Jose Cuervo® is made
  • Visit the Reserva cava Familia® and taste directly from the barrel with professional expert “Tequila Taster” in Tequilero rooms
  • Guided tour of the Hacienda Jose Cuervo® and Garden Lemon Tree where you will appreciate the sculptures of Leonora Carrington and Sergio Bustamante
  • A gourmet three-course meal with wine pairing of our tequila, mariachi and folklore

Day 2 – Gallery, Crafts, and Cultural Experience

  • Guadalajara city tour
  • Visit the Iconic “plaza de la Liberación” and the majestic “Teatro Degollado”
  • Visit the great “Centro Cultural Cabañas” and enjoy a tour inside to see the Orozco Murals.
  • Walk along the colorful streets of Tlaquepaque
  • Dive into the world of handicrafts of Tlaquepaque
  • Visit the Surrealistic Museum of “Bustamante”
  • Experiment the culture of the famous “Papantla” Flyers
  • Enjoy a gourmet three-course Mexican meal with cocktails in the middle of an ocean of Mexican handicrafts at “Casa luna Mexicano Gourmet”

Included: Pricing includes hotel accommodations, breakfast, lunch, dinner and transportation to and from the hotel in Guadalajara to the program’s local events.

Not Included: Pricing does not include transportation between Guadalajara and Mexico City. Attendees will need to secure their own travel arrangements to and from each city. Dinner will not be included in the package during one evening of the tour.

Explore the colonial magic of Mexico City and visit some the most popular sites, exclusive sceneries, all in the company of local EOers who will show you how incredible one of the largest destinations in the world is.

Day 1 – Teotihuacan Pyramids

  • Visit the archaeological site of Teotihuacan and climb the Pyramid of the Sun, the Moon.
  • Take to the air and witness the views of the Teotihuacan pyramids from a hot air balloon.
  • Explore the Temple of Quetzalcoatl, the Avenue of the Dead and the palace Quetzalpapalotl.
  • Visit Chapultepec Castle, an important palace where Emperor Maximilian lived, and take time to explore one of the greatest museums in the city, the Anthropology Museum.
  • End the day with an authentic Mexican meal at the restaurant La Gruta.

Day 2 – Mexico City

  • Have breakfast in the famous Mexican restaurant El Cardena. We will visit the original location where this food experience was created – at a historic house in downtown Mexico City,
  • Enjoy visiting a historic center starting at the Zócalo, a monumental square located in the heart of the city that is surrounded by the Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Palace, the Old Town Hall and other colonial buildings,
  • We will visit the Templo Mayor where the Aztecs founded what we now call Mexico City.
  • Visit the spectacular 80-year-old Bellas Artes museum.
  • Enjoy the greatest tequila and mezcal with mariachis at Garibaldi.
  • Discover the great Casa Azul, where Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera lived and worked on their art. Enjoy the architecture and their paintings at this historic landmark.

The streets of San Miguel de Allende showcase galleries, cultural centers, boutiques, jewelry stores, workshops and even a school of world class cuisine that makes it one of the most beautiful treasures of Mexico.

To experience the culinary and historical greatness of San Miguel, we’ll visit the city a few days before the University kicks off, starting with a spectacular dinner—the city’s Mayor will open doors to a local to delight us with a wonderful once-in-a-lifetime dining experience.

The next day, we’ll head off to start our adventure and enjoy activities such as horseback riding, quads or golf games. As we move in closer to the main University events, we’ll stop at Queretaro where we will have a delicious gourmet dinner at one of the area’s top wineries.

Riviera Maya and Tulum

Explore the impressive Tulum archaeological site in a Riviera Maya excursion you won’t forget.

Set on a cliff giving you stunning views of the Caribbean Sea, National Geographic declared Tulum the fourth best beach in the world! During this Tulum excursion, enter into the amazing Sac-Actun system—explored and recommended by National Geographic Snorkeler specialized cave divers, it is the world’s longest underground river. Spend the afternoon surrounded by incredible rock formations and ride through the jungle on all-terrain Mercedes Benz Unimogs. Rappel down into a cenote (underground cave) and swim in a unique natural pool.
