Township Tour

US$55 per person

Includes: Tour guide, transportation, snacks, marimba band and welcome dancers.

12:45 pm – Depart to Langa Township

Construction of Langa township, just east of Table Mountain, began in 1927. It provided homes to the workers who would help build Cape Townʼs harbour; specifically designed to allow authorities maximum visibility and control of its residents.

Langa is one of the smallest townships in the city. Ten years ago, it was home to 50,000 people, but like many townships, it has grown rapidly as job opportunities in the city draw workers and families from the surrounding countryside. There are now about 80,000 people in Langa and the township is struggling to cope.

4:00 pm – Visit the Project Playground

Project Playground is a non-profit organization founded in 2010, engaging over 800 vulnerable children and youth in townships outside Cape Town in South Africa as well as 100 vulnerable children and youth from the lower social economic areas around Stockholm, Sweden.

With a holistic approach, Project Playground works using educational, recreational and supportive programmes to empower vulnerable children and youth, one by one. Project Playground works to reinforce their personal and social development through support programmes and organized activity, thereby contributing to a sustainable future.

Return to Cape Town Convention Centre by 5:00 pm.
