Jane Bianchini

Biography

Jane is a seasoned professional with over 20 years’ experience in the recruitment industry. Jane set out to disrupt the recruitment industry from within by starting Alcami Interactive, a one-way digital video interviewing platform that replaces the phone screening stage of the recruitment process. After winding down her successful recruitment business, putting her house on the line to fund the tech start-up and successfully raising two external rounds of capital, she was faced with stiff competition – with deeper pockets. This new category of ‘video interviewing’ within the HR Tech Industry started to gain global momentum.

Jane did not believe the advice she was constantly given that those with the most funding ultimately win. Jane had to fight not to drown or be eaten by competition. Assessing the macro-economic environment, many sleepless nights and believing in her own abilities and creativity, Jane developed a significant point of difference for the business by building a world-first Diversity, Equality & Inclusion functionality in her platform, which leap-frogged even her biggest global competitor.

In December, Jane was directly approached by a U.S. Private Equity firm with an offer to acquire her business after a worldwide search for similar technology platforms. After arriving at a sale price that was meaningful, Jane sold her company and went on to successfully complete her earnout. Most importantly, she gave her shareholders a significant return and her staff great career advancement opportunities.

Jane’s holds a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and an Executive MBA. Jane has a passion for championing the underdog, supporting women in business and anything to do with the ocean.

Katy Milkman

Biography

Katy Milkman co-founded and co-directs the University of Pennsylvania’s Behavior Change for Good initiative alongside her Wharton School colleague Angela Duckworth. As we transition from lockdown into our post-pandemic lives, Milkman is the person best equipped to help us make the most of this figurative “blank slate”: not only teaching us how to create change, but make it stick.

As humans, we are hard-wired to create meaningful change around “temporal landmarks.” The New Year is an undeniable time for resolutions and goal-setting, as are birthdays, new seasons or the start of the school year. This kind of “fresh start effect” that triggers our desire for change also appears as we emerge from the pandemic—especially powerful alongside a physical change in circumstances, like going back to the office or in-person schooling. Whether you hope to nudge yourself, your employees, your customers, or your clients, now is the time to move forward with the changes you’ve always wanted to make. And no matter if the goal is to be more productive, save more for retirement, get more out of enrichment programs or achieve health and wellness targets—Milkman is ready to help.

Milkman’s research is transforming our understanding of behavior change. She’s the former president of the International Society for Judgment and Decision Making, and one of Wharton’s most sought-after teachers. Milkman has also worked with or advised dozens of organizations on how to spur positive change, including Google, the US Department of Defense, the American Red Cross, 24 Hour Fitness, Walmart, Morningstar and the White House. Her research and insights are frequently covered by major media outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist and NPR.

Session Description

But why is change so hard? And how can we diagnose complacency and conquer our goals? As we begin to rebuild, we turn to award-winning behavioral scientist and Wharton professor Katy Milkman, who has devoted her career to understanding change. Milkman uses science, humor, and real-world stories from her groundbreaking book How to Change to show us how we can overcome our most difficult obstacles. The result is a science-based blueprint for adapting our behaviour (and the behaviour of those we lead, manage and coach) to the demands of the post-pandemic world.

Carlos Dasilva

Biography

Carlos has spent over a decade studying how innovative leaders think, from PhD studies at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles to executive training programs and talks presented to audiences from New York to Paris, Geneva to Kyoto, Taipei to Sydney.

By the age of 30, Carlos had co-founded an NGO in Africa, became the ninth employee of a successful internet start-up that was sold to a large media group few years later, published his first book on Entrepreneurship by SAGE USA and concluded his PhD. In 2013, he became the managing director of the Silicon Valley-based Technology Start-up Accelerator “Founder Institute” where he supported on a one-to-one basis over 100 entrepreneurs throughout his program.

Recently, he became the Director of the Executive MBA Program at the HEG School of Management in Switzerland. He runs executive education programs for Switzerland, Slovenia, Portugal, Brazil and the US. He is also a lead trainer for the Swiss National Innovation Agency “INNOSUISSE”, as well as an international Keynote Speaker.

Having lived and worked in 6 different countries, Carlos is used to deal with multinational and multicultural environments. His origins and heart are from the small coastal village of Cascais, Portugal. Carlos is a Mozart aficionado and a keen kitesurfer.

Session Description

Carlos will show us the power of breakthrough innovation: leap thinking. In searching for innovative practices to apply in our personal lives, business and communities, we often try to emulate what effective leaders do. Dr. Carlos DaSilva says this principle is flawed, because innovative solutions that work in one context may make little sense in another. A more productive, yet more difficult approach is to look at how such leaders think

After extensive research, the author discovered that most are leap thinkers—that is, they can hold in their heads several contrasting solutions from different contexts at once, and then come up with a custom parallel solution that contains elements of each but is superior to all. Carlos argues that this process of consideration and synthesis (rather than superior logic or faultless reasoning) is the hallmark of innovative breakthrough ideas and limitless potential.

Christina Harbridge

Biography

Christina Harbridge is a behaviorist who trains and coaches individuals, teams and large groups to understand and leverage their own personal operating system when dealing with people who may or may not be rational.

Christina’s early experience as founder and CEO of a debt collection agency that collected debt through unorthodox tactics – such as simply being nice – shaped her worldview on workplace communication. Employees focused their interactions on filling a person’s need to feel understood through emotionally literate tactics, rather than focusing on trying to collect a debt that may not even have been owed. This values-based tactic, reinforced by bonuses paid on thank-you notes received, reinvigorated the industry by resulting in collections three times higher than the industry average.

Christina has co-authored software, built and sold a successful finance industry company, practiced acrobatic swing dancing, participated as a NASA test subject and collaborated to design and weld several large-scale metal sculptures. She has served her community on the founding boards of The Bay Lights and Emerge America. Her story is covered in more detail in Simon Sinek’s book Start with Why, Mike Maddock’s Plan D, and Maria Ross’ Empathy Edge. She is the author of Swayed: How to Communicate for Impact, which reached number one on Amazon’s ‘Conflict’ category list. She has served EO as a chapter President, chaired GLC, and started the Global Communications Committee.

Session Description

Christina covers the biochemistry of commitment In order to gain outcomes an entrepreneur, you must gain commitment rather than compliance. Since humans can be irrational, it isn’t always facts or logic that changes people. In this highly interactive session, attendees will experience moments that uptick the human operating system, then understand why it helps with relationships and commitment. Every person in the room will participate and deepen connection with each other.

Charles Koch “DJ Dirty Hands”

Biography

Charles Koch “DJ Dirty Hands” is a professional DJ and entrepreneur. Whether it is mixing the latest hit on the deck or using his creative mind to develop a new business idea, Charles’ keen eye for design and ambitious personality has inevitably left a lasting impression on the competitive market of DC.

Years of honing his skills have lead to some incredible headlining engagements, ranging from DJ’ing the Democratic National Convention for Bill Clinton to becoming a mentor at the Red Bull Music Academy.

Whatever endeavor Charles decides to take on, he leaves no stone unturned on his quest for a successful outcome. Using his extensive background in the business as a DJ, Charles went on to broaden his skill set once again. There had become an undeniable void in DC nightlife and it was a perfect time to add ‘founder, designer, and managing partner’ to his resume, as he proceeded to open one of DC’s hottest nightclubs, Fly Lounge. He would soon add Angels Rock Bar in Baltimore, Maryland, and another iteration of Fly Lounge in Aspen, Colorado. A few years later, Charles founded and managed Heist, an exclusive, high-end nightclub in DC that makes the most of its heist theme, with décor ranging from a diamond-stuffed teddy bear to a champagne vault.

His latest and possibly most notable endeavor is an authentic South American rotisserie chicken restaurant and whiskey bar called Chicken + Whiskey. In partnership with superstar Venezuelan chef Enrique Limardo, Charles opened the first restaurant on 14th Street NW in the heart of DC’s liveliest neighborhood, and the second located in Columbia, MD. A third location will open in June 2022 outside of Nationals Stadium in DC, with a fourth coming to Clarendon, VA by mid-2023.

Charles dominates any venue by infusing every party with his versatility and his innate ability to read crowds. With such, he continues to captivate the entire industry by incorporating his love for music with an entrepreneurial drive to succeed.
