Andy Bailey

Andy Bailey

petracoach.com

Speaker Biography

[:en][:en][:en][:en][:en]Andy Bailey, Petra’s CEO and founder, started his first company while still in college in 1993 and grew it into an Inc. 500 corporation. The success didn’t come with a swish of a magic wand though. Andy learned by doing, and therefore, made some mistakes along the way. One being growing his business by micromanaging and working around the clock. Although this grew the company, it wasn’t t sustainable. He had constructed a glorified job rather than a business.

Andy began searching for ways to achieve his ultimate entrepreneurial dream of growing a self-sustaining business so that he could launch and grow additional startups. He read countless business manuals and began applying the methodologies. He developed and followed through with a strategic plan, set goals, delegated tasks to team members who could collectively help accomplish those goals, and systematized day-to-day procedures that allowed him to stop micromanaging and start focusing on the business.

While Andy was preparing to sell his company in 2010, he didn’t have a plan for his next endeavor. He decided to take time off and help his friends grow their companies. With Andy’s help, nine of his friends grew their companies by record numbers. Andy decided to transform his business-building passions into a business and founded Petra Coach. Since January 2011, Bailey has facilitated hundreds of business planning sessions and gained clients from a variety of industries and size businesses.

A true entrepreneur, Andy is involved in several other business ventures. He’s part owner of Urban Flats Wine bar in Nashville, Tennessee and owns and manages vacation homes in Northwest Florida. Andy lives in Franklin, Tennessee with his wife Nicole, their two daughters, Madison and Gracen, and their pup Raleigh. Andy has a clear vision for the near future: To place himself in as many positive environments as possible and give freely of his time and energy with the belief that in doing so he will find continued fulfillment and reward.[:][:][:][:][:]

Speaker Session

Navigating Challenging Conversations: BreakThrough Conflict

Session Abstract:

[:en]One issue confronts all entrepreneurs: What do you do when you don’t agree with key stakeholders — and walking away isn’t an option? How can you create thought partners from adversaries? Innovators understand that conflict can lead to growth and prevent a business from becoming stale, but that only happens when business leaders discover how to navigate through life’s deadlocks, and create agreement from discord. Even with the best of intentions, many of us react automatically and emotionally, making communication blunders that take a toll on our professional and personal lives.
The groundbreaking work of Drs. Glaser offers evidence-based, tangible skills for turning high stakes conversations into solved problems, strengthened relationships and deepened trust. EO members learn how to turn conflict into a tool for innovation and growth — especially when emotions are high and the outcome is important. The goal: enhanced productivity, interpersonal cohesion and financial performance.
Based on 40 years of international award-winning research, the Glasers present pragmatic models, including how to raise delicate issues, to convince without being overbearing, and to constructively resolve conflict. Their refreshingly clear approach features flexible guidelines and progressive steps to develop and sustain strong positive relationships—and, when necessary, to repair damaged ones.
The Glasers’ presentation style is unique. Former actors as well as award winning researchers and university professors, the Glasers utilize their dramatic skills to recreate compelling conflict scenarios directly from the lives of EO members.
This program offers concrete skills and tools to transform conflict into solved problems, strengthened relationships, and deepened trust.

Act 2: The Next Risk

Session Abstract:

[:en]If you have made it this far in your business, you know that risk is opportunity with a bad name tag. What someone else passed by claiming it could not be done, it was too risky, too hard, too unsure, you saw a different way. You saw it as an opportunity.
They dropped the ball. You picked it up and ran with it. You scored…success.
Now what?

Perhaps you have won, you have succeeded, you have reached the top or near it…..but people like us, the driven, the ambitious – there is no finish line. The game is still on and the copycats are closing in. You need the next thing, the next challenge, the next risk is afoot. You and your business need to obliterate the status quo to stay alive BUT, the stakes are higher, all eyes are on you and you know from experience how hard it is to build something great…but you can’t shake the feeling that there is more to come.

They say it is lonely at the top. What’s worse is that a lethal combination of boredom and complacency can overcome you and your business there, at the top…unless…..

Unless you want to know how to prime yourself to see and act on the risk….and get the concrete tools to start your second act, now.

Don’t risk missing this.

Eric Whitacre

Eric Whitacre

Speaker Biography

[:en]

Grammy-winning choral composer and conductor Eric Whitacre is known for working at the nexus of art and technology. In this intensely humanistic — yet highly code-dependent — space, he finds profound, universal wisdom about leadership, collaboration, community building, and nurturing the creative process. Charismatic and captivating, he has been commissioned by NASA for a far-reaching project soon to be revealed.

He was appointed the Los Angeles Master Chorale’s first Artist-in-Residence. The two-year post began with the 2016-2017 season.

Eric is best known for creating technologically innovative musical arrangements, like the Hubble Space Telescope-inspired Deep Field, and his groundbreaking Virtual Choirs, which have been heard by tens of millions of people around the globe. Beautifully composed, gorgeously performed, and imaginatively wrought, Eric’s haunting, complex works exemplify his message that technology can be used to foster connections and help broaden the reach of art and human expression.

The inspiration for the Deep Field choral composition, commissioned by the BBC for their annual series of concerts, was the Hubble’s pictures of our early universe. To accompany the singers, Eric conceived of an app to engage the audience as collaborators. At a critical juncture in the performance, the theater goes dark and listeners’ smartphones emit sound and light to complement the voices and create the cosmos-like atmosphere.

Eric’s Virtual Choir projects connected thousands of Internet-sourced voices via video, challenging him to virtually replicate the very physical conductor-choir intimacy. Immediate international sensations, these performances afforded unprecedented inclusion — to all races and nationalities, the geographically remote, the physically challenged, the emotionally vulnerable, and even those under restrictive political regimes. They inspired self-organizing groups, where teams helped each other audition, rehearse, and work out tech problems.

Though virtual, these “spheres of magic” provided the emotional satisfactions of connection, belonging, and accomplishment and teach lessons about inclusion, global team building, and how to motivate diverse people to collaborate toward a common goal.

Eric continuously explores the nature of creativity. He speaks to art and vulnerability, to code as a medium for human expression, to the Golden Mean as the perfect creative structure, and to what he terms “the Golden Brick” — the first kernel of any creative endeavor. His work at this intersection of science and art includes a study with the Centre of Performance Science at the Royal College of Music and Imperial College, which helped prove music’s role in stress-reduction and building the immune system.

Whether speaking about successful collaboration, or the stages of the creative process, Eric imparts inspiration and valuable insights for creators, technologists, project managers and general audiences.

Eric’s own musical journey started comparatively late when, as a college freshman, he joined the choir to meet “hot sopranos” — and was forever transformed by Mozart’s Requiem and by the shared emotional connection of choral singing. Soon, he was composing his own works, and was eventually accepted to the prestigious Julliard School.

Eric has written for many of the world’s most prestigious orchestras and artists, including Stephen Schwarz, Annie Lennox, and Laura Mvula. His musical, Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings, won the ASCAP Harold Arlen Award and the Richard Rodgers Award. His album Light & Gold won the Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance and his album Water Night went straight to #1 on the iTunes Classical Music chart on its day of release. As a conductor, Eric has performed on five continents and was been a Composer in Residence at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge.
